Situated halfway between Phuket and Krabi, the Ko Yao Yai Islands are characterized by soft sandy shores, mangroves and tranquil waters primed and perfect for exploring the coral reef.
Ko Yao Yai is a beautiful scenic island located in the heart of the park, approximately halfway between Phuket and Krabi. Cruise to the island from Phuket amid myriad columns of limestone rocks awash with greenery and colorful birds, where you just might feel like you’ve entered paradise.
The island itself is pretty remarkable, characterized by swathes of platinum sand beaches, lush mangrove forests and quaint fishing villages.
The famous vertical rock that featured in the Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun sits out in the bay in all it’s majestic glory, an iconic image that was first committed to celluloid and now features on thousands of instagram accounts. Although visitors may be disappointed that there is no secret lair hidden inside the rock itself!
The island’s beaches include Loh Paret and Loh Jark, which offers a pontoon for ferries and Thailand’s ubiquitous long-tail boats.
The surrounding waters are rich in coral and boast an array of notable dive sites, including King Cruiser Wreck – a passenger ferry that sank, casualty-free, in 1997 and is now home to a variety of unique marine life, plus Anemone Reef – well-known for spotting Lionfish, and Shark Point – part of a marine sanctuary that consist of a array of astonishing underwater pinnacles.
