The Island With Two Faces
Originally known as Yuma by the Arawak Indians, Long Island has been renamed a couple of times. It now borrows its moniker from its considerable length, which extends to over 80 miles. At only two miles wide – four at its widest – Long Island is the perfect idestination for exploring idyllic coastlines and the true way of Bahamian life.
Due to the presence of the Tropic of Cancer there are two very different experiences to be had when visiting the island. On one side you will find high, rugged cliffs and on the other there is a gently sloping sandy beach. Great as a last port of call on your Bahamian yacht charter adventure, this island has some spectacular sights to see which cannot be replicated elsewhere.
The biggest pull to the island is the famous Dean's Blue Hole. Great for adrenaline seekers, this is a fantastic activity not to be missed. On the land you can find a stunning pair of churches which look remarkably similar and you can visit one of the largest caves in the Bahamas.
Whether you are a nature lover, adrenaline seeker or an explorer, there is something on Long Island with your name on it. To incorporate the island in to your next tour of the Bahamas, you can compare all of the available crewed superyachts for Bahamas yacht charters.
