Greater Antilles
The Greater Antilles is comprised of group of large islands in the Caribbean Sea, including the four main islands of Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico. With fusion of cultural influences from all over the world, most significantly the Caribbean and South America, the islands encompass a distinctly dynamic atmosphere and mix of varied landscapes.
Hispaniola
Located in the heart of the Greater Antilles archipelago, the island of Hispaniola is divided into two contrast countries – the Dominican Republic which is renowned for its colourful year-round festivities and Haiti, a place that boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Hispaniola is also famed for its five mountain ranges that stretch the entire length of the island and, combined with the pristine white sands and clear blue waters, make for a spectacular view from the deck of your luxury charter superyacht.
Jamaica
As one of the best-known islands in the Caribbean, and even the world, Jamaica lives up to its laid-back reputation. The north coast plays host the best beaches and dive sites whilst further down you will find some breath-taking natural beauty in the form of waterfalls, forests, rivers and caves. The towns are lively and full of colourful markets and music, which combined with the scenery make for a must-see itinerary stop-off.
Puerto Rico
Ideally situated between the Virgin Islands and Hispaniola, the smallest island of Puerto Rico combines a powerful mix of cultural influences from the native Taino to Creole, Spanish, African and South American. The island is partially covered by the incredible El Yunque Caribbean National Rain Forest, a home to over 400 wildlife species and to the south the terrain transforms to arid and rocky. There also a number of great casinos and nightclubs as well as historical treasures such as the 400-year-old fortress San Felipe del Morro.
Cuba
Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean and includes several off-lying islands, such as the Isla de la Juventud (the Island of Youth). The appeal of Cuba is most certainly the strong identity of its culture and local people which together creates a unique and memorable part of any superyacht vacation. Scenery wise, its mix of mountainous landscapes, 200 bays and 289 sun drenched beaches ensure an array of ashore activities.
