Held every year throughout the last fortnight in January, the Australian Open is one of the major annual tennis tournaments.
First held in 1905, the Australian Open is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments to be held each year and has been played on the hard courts at Melbourne Park since 1988. It was the first of the Grand Slam tournaments to accommodate indoor play during wet or extremely hot weather with it's two primary courts now fixed with retractable roofs and able to offer uninterrupted play.
